Flooded but Focused: Farm Updates & Spring Plans

Water Water Everywhere

February 18 News Update

Well, the weather is keeping us on our toes yet again!

Last week’s torrential rain led to a full-blown basement flooding event, covering our entire finished basement and garage in water. This was a bit of a surprise since we thought we had resolved grading issues after the 2009 flood (which, to be fair, was much worse—both in terms of water volume and our own level of preparedness).

This time, the water came from unexpected places, giving us a clear plan for what needs to be fixed outside to prevent future incidents. In the meantime, we’ve spent the last five days deep cleaning, airing things out, and sealing floors—so at least we’re coming out of this with cleaner, more organized spaces!

NRCS Conservation Plan Update

We’re wrapping up the installation of our low tunnels for inspection this week and are gearing up to install our first caterpillar tunnel. If all goes well, it should be ready just in time for an early spring planting. Fingers crossed, we MIGHT even have tomatoes before June 1! 🤞

CSA Subscription Update

Rob is finalizing our CSA schedule, and we plan to open subscriptions next week. If you’d like to secure your spot, be sure to sign up for notifications! Sign up Here!

Crop Planning with Seedtime

One of the tools we’re using to plan both our CSA crops and early tomatoes is an amazing crop-planning application called Seedtime. We purchased it last year, and it’s been a game-changer for documenting every stage of our growing process—from seed to harvest. It improves our traceability, helps us forecast yields more accurately, and keeps us on track with timely reminders for planting, bed prep, transplanting, and harvesting. The app even has a vast library of crop varieties, making it easy to add new plants with pre-set schedules.

While we love a lot about Seedtime, there are still a few quirks—like only allowing one user per account and some clunky mapping features—but overall, it’s the best tool we’ve found for managing a custom portfolio of crops and fields. Plus, the developers are super responsive and always adding new features!

We’ve even used it to plan our raised bed planting packages, so home gardeners might find it just as useful. If you’re curious to try it out, there’s a free version available! You can check it out using our affiliate link: https://seedtime.us/jkmel4ukl4tonac09iap-5fs?ref=trefoilgardens

Thursday Open Workday & Spring Opportunities

Our Thursday Open Workday (winter edition) is still on—but it’s going to be COLD, so bundle up! Arrive anytime after 12:30 PM and stay as long as you’d like. We’ll be cultivating in the field and tackling some greenhouse cleanup. Winter open workdays run 12:30 PM ‘til through April 3.

We’re also launching an internship program this spring alongside our regular workshare commitment. The workshare application will be posted by February 25, and the internship opportunity will go live in mid-March. If you’re interested in either, feel free to reach out now! Click here to contact.

Stay warm, and we hope to see you soon!
